NEW ART GALLERY TOUCHED BY GENIUS

Every now and then something truly remarkable happens. And it’s happened here in a former 350 square metre garage at 69 Roslyn Street, Rushcutters Bay, where Jason Bonham, Founder and Creative Director, has just opened his art and design gallery.
He has decades of experience in interior design and formal qualifications from UK. He specialises in a world-class roster of artists, designers and makers, many of whom have never been shown in Australasia.
He offers architects, designers, collectors and the public access to hand-made works of an international calibre that honour material tradition, superb craftmanship and stunning inventiveness, all within a matrix of genius.
The gallery curates a breathtaking collectible designs and functional art, featuring sculptural lighting and handcrafted furniture of museum-quality craftsmanship – pieces that possess a timeless beauty and enduring appeal.
The opening here in Rushcutters Bay follows the success of his original gallery in Queenstown, New Zealand. Each piece is handcrafted in ateliers and reflects the gallery’s commitment to the highest standards of time-honoured artisanal techniques.
Jason is passionate, possibly slightly obsessed with his carefully curated collection. He’s proud of the gallery’s location in a former garage which has been conserved. Its sandstone and convict-hewn internal brick walls, copper tubing, massive timber trusses and polished concrete floor only add to the significance of the site, opposite the 19th century St. Canice’s church. The church provides a heritage landscape seen from within the gallery with its large windows. The gallery reflects a desire to respect our heritage and is in line with the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, retaining any blemishes to reflect its significance.
Jason believes the selection of works is not only beautiful but also enriches our lives and well-being. “Everyone should wake up to something beautiful every day,” he says.
The collection is truly remarkable, featuring exceptional works such as Swedish glassmaker Peter Hermansson’s exquisite pieces, and Jonathan Prince’s magnificent stainless steel sculpture “Turbulence,” which makes its Australian debut after being showcased in New York. This masterpiece is seamless, with no visible joins. Amongst other extraordinary works are the captivating “Moon” coffee table in solid, handcrafted bronze by the esteemed Jean-Luc Le Mounier.
The whole gallery is a delightfully exuberant exercise in elegance and the highest quality design.
