Grand Terraces Highlight Social Status
A suite of eight terraces in Roslyn Gardens, Elizabeth Bay, were built at the height of the late 1880s economic boom.
This was an exuberant period in Sydney’s history and money flowing freely available. These society mores were reflected in its architecture.
The terraces at 13 to 27 Roslyn Gardens sit like a tiara high up facing east overlooking Rushcutters Bay.
Each is four storeys with an undercroft with tessellated tiled entrances.
Stained glass over the front doors, ornate wrought iron balcony balustrades and brass name plates adorn each terrace house.
These grand terraces are indicative of the social status of the area in the late 1880s.
