Kellet Street is named after Kellet House a large 19th century estate subsequently subdivided and comprised a large five-storey Victorian Italianate villa. Its remnants still exist facing Kellet Street.
The building at number 19 is a boutique block of 15 units, probably built in rhe1930s in the Mediterranean or Spanish Mission style. Its facade is rendered a with a hand-applied particular pattern that adds interest to the streetscape with sunburst motifs above the windows.
Oriel windows are cantilevered over the facade providing the interiors with bay windows.
The interior of unit six retains its original pine flooring, skirting boards, picture rails and high ceilings.
The building’s name, San Jose, is named after Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe, the city’s predecessor, which was eventually located in the area of what is now the Plaza de César Chávez, in California., USA.
Kellet Street is one of the more picturesque areas in the 2011 postcode area.
