MACLEAY CONCEPT STORE

18 Jul 2019

The newly-opened Macleay Concept Store at 67 Macleay Street, Potts Point, offers a new concept in furnishing and the way we enjoy our homes.

It’s curated by three specialists and Wendy Varley, Gill Cok and Lou Murray, all previously part of the South Dowling Street Antiques Centre.

MCS offers a new way and new concept of looking at what we surround ourselves with in terms of a sophisticated lifestyle. It sells an eclectic collection of object d’art from around the world. “It’s an Alladin’s cave of wonderful things,“ says Ms Varley.

Crystal, clothes, accessories. homewares and Art Deco items are featured.

Items have been selected according to their intrinsic worth and significance. Some of the more exquisite items include: a 1930s Louis Vuitton leather and wooden battened, monogrammed, and four leafed clover steamer trunk and matching hat case, two 18th century French screens, each a triptych of natural bird scenes, a large engrailed Christofle silver vase, an Art deco black glass and chrome trolley, rare Waterford goblets and decanters, Lalique birds, a French Jet necklace by Césarée, Chanel slippers, faux furs, Cameroon hand-made stools, large Indonesian fishing baskets, Wedgwood majolica plates (originally a tin-glazed pottery process dating from the Renaissance period). Any one of these items makes a fascinating sujet de discussion at a dinner party.

Ms Varley loves the location of MSC, in one of Sydney more European-style streets.

And locals have also embraced the concept and the chic boutique enthusiastically.
