Making a Date with Mabel

16 Jan 2020

A vibrant new shop, A Date with Mabel, has opened in Potts Point. It specialises in lifestyle and fashion accessories for locals and visitors who are living a high-lifestyle in the hum and thrum of our chic urban environment. Situated on the corner of Llankelly Place and 21 Darlinghurst Road, opposite the corner of Roslyn Street, they stock women’s clothing brands such as Andrea and Joen, Elk and Nique. The style is free-flowing, easy on the eye, and ideal for our Summer climate, mainly in soft linen and cotton fabrics.

Accessories include open weave, leather-soled sandals from Gaia Soul, Byron Bay, men’s and women’s sunglasses, travelling manicure sets, bangles and jewellery in stirling silver, stylish Ecuadorian hats, embossed leather items by Nancy Bird from Melbourne and sophisticated straw hats from Japan by Grosgrain. They even have designer garden tools form London’s V & A Museum.

The store is packed with other niche items for the urban flanneur, such as sporks (a half spoon, half fork), fun velvetine joggers in puce and caramel and pastel cushions.

The family-run store is owned and run by daughter and mother team, Emma and Natalie. The family originates from Kurrajong (population 3,123) near Bilpin in the Blue Mountains, recently ravaged by severe bushfires.

The shop takes its name from Natalie’s four year-old granddaughter, Mabel. Mabel and her Aunt, Emma, both live locally in Potts Point.

Natalie and Emma choose items based on colour, fabric quality and cut and their sense of joie de vivre.

Natalie says, “we have been warmly welcomed into the village vibe of the area by neighbours and love the atmosphere and ambience of Potts Point.”
