THE GREENKNOWE CAFE, 8 GREENKNOWE AVENUE, ELIZABETH BAY

6 Oct 2022

Sandra and Joe are in love. They are in love with Elizabeth Bay. They are in love with their new cafe, the Greenknowe Cafe at 8 Greenknowe Avenue, Elizabeth Bay, and they are in love with locals who make up the area and give it its vibrancy.

Joe is a professional chef with 10 years’ experience on international cruise liners and seven years with the Rockpool restaurant group.
“We chose this area because it’s where we live with our kaboodle puppy. We love the parks and open spaces,” says Sandra.
The cafe seats 50 including its al-fresco area and is serviced by seven staff. It opened four weeks ago on 10th September.
They serve an all-day breakfast where locals can enjoy tea and coffee on the run or on the way to work and is a great pit stop for dogwalkers and their pooches to enjoy the doggie water bowl or puppycino (coffee-free lukewarm frothy milk).

It’s a place for people to relax and linger longer with board games and colouring-in books for children.

But it’s the menu that will capture people’s attention.
Unusually, dishes are named after the area’s heritage.
“We chose this approach to showcase the area’s unique heritage,” says Sandra.

Tresco is toast with bocconcini, avocado, basil and chilli flakes with a balsamic glaze.
EB House (Elizabeth Bay House) incorporates salmon, edamame (soy beans) and a soft-boiled egg with a honey-soy glaze.
The Challis Crepe comes with caramelised bananas dripping with butterscotch sauce.
Ashton is an award-winning eggplant omelette with tomato chutney whose egg dish was recently voted number one by Time Out magazine.

“Locals have been very positive and supportive and we love them for it,” say Joe and Sandra.
