Macleay Street is buzzing. It’s the sound of razors buzzing to produce the perfect men’s haircut from the Zyn Barber Shop, 87A Macleay Street, Potts Point.

The black marble pillars at the entrance immediately signal a haut couture coiffure.

Inside Mohammad and his team are busily working away to produce the “Zyn Effect”. Zyn, an ancient Arabic word which rhymes with tin, means handsome or beautiful and reflects the heritage and culture of their backgrounds.

They have been “barbering” for over 20 years  and have been in Potts Point since 2013 with their fingers on the pulse of Macleay Street.

Theirs is the only specialist men’s barber shop in the street.

They are unique in offering old school customer service with an ethos of commitment to quality and excellence.

“We are pleased to join this bustling and vibrant community,” Mohammad says, adding “It’s a beautiful street with its shady trees. It’s lined with a mix of heritage architecture, trendy cafés and boutique shops.”

They love Potts Point and Potts Point loves them. “The locals have a sense of family and take care of each other”, he says.

All his customers are locals but his on-street advertising is demure: a simple, traditional rotating blue and red barber’s pole sends out its signal to passers by.

He cuts men’s hair in all styles for all ages including razor and scissor cuts, skim fades and short back and sides, the most popular style at the moment. Beards and moustache trims are also on the menu.

And like nearby cafes Zyn offers loyalty cards with the tenth cut free, prompting bonding, trust and return custom.

Customers agree noting “it’s the only barbershop who understood what I need”, and “it’s the best haircut I ever had”, and “they are very professional and pleasant to visit.”
